Creativity Quotes

What makes us more creative? Is it reading creativity quotes all day long or is it doing something about it?

We can read creativity quotes but I think it’s more important to do something, and at time, anything. It means writing, developing, drawing, reading, thinking, sculpting and creating.

We feel a sense of creativity by doing. There is a sense of accomplishment we feel by doing. The creative process is all about thinking and then doing.

Become an Explorer

Become an Explorer. An explorer looks for ideas wherever they can find them. An explorer gathers ideas and puts them together so you can use them at a later date.

The idea of the Explorer comes from Roger von Oeach’s book “A Whack on the Side of the Head.” Besides the Explorer, there is the Artist who puts together the ideas gathered by the Explorer. After the Artist puts together the ideas then the Judge takes a look at how well the ideas work. If they aren’t good enough, then the Judge sends it back to the Artist for more work.

If the Judge approves the Artist’s work, then the Warrior takes over the idea and fights for it.

Good Content for Web Sites

Okay, you go to a nice restaurant. The table setting is beautiful and the service is impeccable. Nice lighting, good music. And then you order your filet mignon. This is gonna be good.

But then you get your meal and it’s not filet mignon but a hamburger from the dollar menu at McDonalds. What’s happening?

This is similar to having a great looking web site but has bad content. Something’s amiss. There is more to a web site than just the design and function. You need to have good content.

I’ve been talking to several clients and potential clients about the content on their sites. I’m finding that content has been more of an afterthought than a recognized need. We really do need to have great content on our web sites.

If you’re looking at your site and realizing that you need to revamp your content, I would like to help. Click here to read more about content writing on my business web site, Green Chair Marketing Group. We would love to help you better communicate your message.

Saying, “Yes and …”

I took an improv class several years ago and one of the main principles was to take what the other person gave you and work with it.

An example: Your partner says, “You have a duck on your head.” The wrong answer is, “No, I don’t. It’s a quail.” Instead you say something like, “Yes and he keeps my head very warm. He’s my best friend Jimmy. Where’s your duck?”

The same is true in our business community. We have plenty of people who want to stomp on our ideas. Instead of exploring ideas together, our clients or co-workers look at why something won’t work.

So, when tempted to deny your co-worker or client an idea, try the “Yes, and…” exercise of exploring ideas together.
